Rise of Merlin and the Dundei Empire

When magic was still new, and those rare few who could use it were still in their salad days, one lone figure stood out. A gentlemen named Merlin, whom was in the employ of the Dundei family, a family who controlled a great bit of land in the northern section of the nation, figured out the secrets to the art. In the Eldernook Caverns he sought out the perfect piece of Ulan Crystal, a blue crystal which has properties which amplify magic. After 5 years using the piece he collected, he crafted a perfect wand, a tool for magic on par with a true runeblade. During this time he also perfected his craft in magic. From here, he became the court wizard to the Dundei family, and over the next 20 years led them to a conquest of the entire nation, and established the Dundei Empire. From their seat of power, they easily controlled their nation, and even began conquests of the other nations, taking over what would come to be known as Ivory Plains and Green Ocean. Years went by, and though the generations of the Dundei rulers changed, his powerful magic did not let him die, he remained what outwardly appeared as a healthy 50 year old man. He foretold of the coming of triplets, a sign of great power, for the royal family. The king and queen finally gave birth after a few years of trying to conceive and sure as he foretold, they birthed triplets, though their mother was lost in the process. It was this lost that made merlin decide to found the schools of magic in the kingdom, dedicating one of them to the arts of healing and magical surgery so that lives would not be needlessly lost again. As the children came of age, merlin became withdrawn, seeming to have no desire to talk with anyone. When the king threatened his life in response to the wizards refusal to attend court, the wizard appeared and spoke in dire tones. “You think you hold the key to my undoing? I shall remind you, pathetic ant, it was I who forged this empire, not your ancestors, it was my knowledge and gifts that created the bounties you enjoy without offering proper thanks. It is because of your sour tongue that I shall leave your wretched service. Those that came before you understood they’re place, they understood that the gifts I give, I may take away. To this end, you shall fall. I shall take my leave of this place, but not before I take my final payment—you’re worthless life.” and with that, he withdrew his wand, struck the king down and vanished into smoke, never to be seen again.
